Chicken Lachetore

Stacy wanted Mom's Chicken Spaghetti recipe (before we discovered the cheese and rotel chicken spaghetti.  So after granny's funeral I decided I needed to take pictures of  of scan in Mom's recipes and put them on here so we can all have them.  So I got the recipe box and found the recipe Stacy was wanting ... and it is difficult to read, but not impossible.

Dad and I deciphered it.

1 chicken, boiled, boned and cut up
1 pt broth reserved from boiled chicken
Sauté:
1 stick oleo
1 medium onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
Add:
1 can tomato soup
1 can mushroom soup
2 T chili powder
1 sm jar pimentos
10 oz pkg spaghetti cooked in chicken broth

Combine all ingredients
Mix well
Put in casserole
Top with grated cheese
Heat until bubbling
If mixture seems too thick, use pint of broth to thin
This freezes well

Our Granny

We lost Granny on Wednesday.  We went into Camden and I heard one awesome story that I had not heard before.  Apparently, Vicky took Granny's keys from her at some point.  And she told him that she couldn't find her spare keys ... then they caught her driving around town ... sneaky, sneaky Granny.

I am glad to have grown up with two very independent, active grandmothers.

Trip to Paragould

So we had a great idea for a "Sister Trip" to go to Daniel and Tommy's wedding.  Fortunately Samantha and Justin are moving back from Seguin, but unfortunately, the weekend they were moving was the same weekend as the wedding, so she didn't get to go.  This was a crazy, quick trip because the wedding was the same weekend as Father's Day.

So Stacy, Chelsea, and I packed up around 7pm on Friday and headed out.  First stop: gas, second stop: Chick-fil-a!  Next stop New Boston!  That might be a record for me in the car. Stacy and Chelsea drove us to Little Rock.

Stacy had gotten us a room at the Crown Plaza in Little Rock.  She called on Friday to verify our room, and they said they had a room for us, but had us in a room with a king size bed instead of two beds ... but Stacy offered to sleep on the pull-out couch.  So we make it to the Crown Plaza, and send Stacy in while we are looking for a parking spot ... and  she calls ... they gave our room away ... did I mention it was about 1am at this point?  They send us to another hotel "on them."

We show up at the place they sent us ... Baptist Medical Plaza ... not equivalent to the Crown Plaza ... more like Motel 6.  And the lady at the desk looked shocked to see us.  Then, come to find out, she is Stacy's twin.  Her name was Stacey (notice that it is spelled a little differently, it helps us tell them apart) and her middle name was almost Baugh ...  We get to our room, finally sleep, and when Stacy woke she saw a blue glow from the window and then Chelsea's face and had NO IDEA where she was.

As we each woke we just stayed in bed (a rare treat for me a Stacy). When we finally got up and moving we headed out for a card, gift and lunch ... at Chick-fil-a.  Then I drove to Paragould which felt like the longest leg of the trip.

Who would have thought you could find this card at a Target in  Arkansas?

We found the theater, and talked to Mark & Joy for a while before getting a peek at the stage!! What an amazing job on the backdrop!

Then, of course, a selfie out front with the marquee.

A wedding at a theater ... what an amazing idea!! The seats are already there and comfy.  You are inside, so no worries about the weather.  A stage (Stacy was jealous about that)!  Lighting was great, Audio was great, and then to make it even better - the food & reception was set up behind the curtain! What?  Yep, so cool.  Yummy food and drinks made it even better.

A guest asked us who we knew and we said we were Daniel's cousins, and then he continued to talk to us for 15 minutes about John and Larry  ... mostly Larry.  When he left we all asked one another, "Who is Larry?"

Then we stopped at the Kum  & Go to change and head home.

On the way home Stacy and Chelsea drove us all the way back (thanks to a Starbuck's double shot).  And we met a couple of Jack Wagon's.

Who's the boss?

Another gem form the back seat:

One day Samantha and Scotty were having a discussion about the hierarchy of bosses within our family.

"If Mom and Dad aren't home, then Sandy is the boss."

"If Sandy's not home, Stacy's the boss."

So Samantha makes the next logical step, "If Stacy's not home, then I'm the boss. Scotty you are only the boss of the animals."  (Now scottys love of animals is starting to make sense.)

Scotty got his feelings back and said, "oh yeah, well when I get married and my wife leaves, I will be the boss."  Best. Comeback. Ever.

God's Poles

Scotty and Samantha were little when Robert joined our family.  And one Friday during Lent, mom and I had the kids (aka Samantha and Scotty) in the backseat and we were headed to McDonald's to get a hamburger for Robert and fish sandwiches for everyone else.  And Scotty was mad, "Why does Robert get a hamburger and I have to get a fish sandwich?"

And before we could answer Samantha piped up and said, "Duh, Scotty, Robert is a baptism and baptisms don't believe in God's poles."

After we laughed we asked Samantha what gods poles were, she said, "You know ... god's poles."

So funny!

Do not eat with your hands around Delilah

When Delilah was about two we were having dinner with probably at least eight of us crowded around a table meant for six (not even close to how we were later with 10 adults crowded around that same table).   And as usually several conversations were occurring simultaneously, and this day Scotty was eating his dinner with his hands.  Delilah noticed apparently thought he should be using a fork.  So she picked up a fork, held it out to him, and tried to say, "Scotty, fork you."  What she said instead was priceless, she said, "Scotty, fuck you."

Stacy's child dropped the f-bomb before mine, who would have seen that one coming?

Dinner Time Conversations

I remember trying to keep dinner conversations G rated.  And when we were all around the table there were always several conversations going on at once.  On day we were talking about the squirrel that mom had hit with her car.  After it had been there several days it's arm was sticking up and we said it looked like it was flipping mom off.  At the same time dad was asking mom, "Is this bone-in chicken."

At the same time Robert and Scotty started laughing.  We all stared.  Scotty asked Robert, "did you hear that too."  Robert said yes and they continued to laugh.  We continued to stare.

Apparently, what the boys hear was "a squirrel boning a chicken."  The tide turned, and dinner conversations weren't ever really the same.
